I would love to paint more loosely, like this one, but the act of painting is often so calming and absorbing that I can't stop. Then I continue and I create something like this:

One is not better than the other; I am equally happy with both. But still... looseness is something very few people have mastered (with satisfying results, of course; being loose per se is just a matter of doing something random.)
And even in the second one, I find the 'loose' parts the most appealing: the mouth, the smudged eyebrow. Tomorrow I will paint freely, which is very difficult. Everyone who successfully acts freely is extremely controlled, is all I'm saying.
