Alles wat ik maakte (deel 6)

Everything I made (part 6)

By Martine de Jong

The first drawing I made after finding all my drawing supplies again...

Life had inadvertently swallowed me up again: I was working and moving, and both things were happening at the same time. Fortunately, I managed to create something now and then, because creating things is what makes life more enjoyable. (Moving, by the way, is also a lot of fun, once it's over.) (Working is also a lot of fun, both during and after.) (These were the last disclaimers.)

Because most of my drawing and painting supplies had disappeared into a kind of moving limbo, I started using my iPad more often. For example, to process a small trauma:

Or to express other small sorrows:

This was a collage with watercolor that I made earlier, on which I added the figure and texts using the iPad.

My drawing materials slowly reappeared from the moving boxes. I made this after finding wax crayons and Indian ink:

What you do: you first scratch the entire sheet full of those hard wax crayons that children use, then you create a shape on it with the ink. Once it's dry, you can scratch away the drawing with a knife or something else sharp. It's a nostalgic technique, in a primary school kind of way.

Something else to process on the iPad:

Background is a quick watercolor sketch, foreground is made with ProCreate on the iPad.

I have completely rediscovered the iPad now that I combine it with analog work:

Background: a linocut I made earlier, foreground: ProCreate on the iPad.
Background: sketchbook drawing with felt-tip pen, foreground: ProCreate on iPad.
Background: gel print I made earlier, foreground: ProCreate.
Background: sketchbook pages with Posca markers, foreground: ProCreate.
Background: watercolor on paper, foreground (only the heads) ProCreate.

That's all for now! I hope you enjoyed it. Don't forget to follow me on Instagram (@10e) or occasionally check my website (artinedejong.nl), I regularly have new things for sale there.

Now for an outing tip: near me, the

Paltz Biënnale

is currently running, where you can take a walk through eight temporary artworks on the beautiful De Paltz estate, inspired by the surroundings. The cool thing is that this part of the estate is not normally open to the public, and it's really beautiful. There's even a waterfall!

Thanks for reading and don't forget to leave a comment!

Regards!
